| 内容記述 | This paper examines the effect of the animacy of ni-marked nouns on word order in Japanese double object constructions. While previous studies have shown that animacy influences word order, they have focused on limited verb classes. Using BCCWJ (Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese), we extracted instances of patterns matching the form of “N-ga N-ni N-wo V ” and “N-ga N-wo N-ni V ” without verb-class restrictions and annotated the ni-marked nouns for animacy to verify these previous findings. Statistical analysis revealed that the “N-ga N-ni N-wo V ” order is more likely when the ni-marked noun is animate. These results suggest that the animacy of the ni-marked noun has a generalizable effect across verb classes. However, this effect is limited, indicating that factors beyond animacy are required to fully model word order preferences in double object constructions. | |||||
