| 内容記述 | This paper focuses on two types of implicit sentences in which learners tend to use “WA” instead of “GA” in places where “GA” should be used. First, in response to the question ‘Who washes the dishes?’, learners sometimes use “WA” in the implicit sentence “Mr. Tanaka washes them.” Second, in the implicit sentence “My brother was learning judo” as an answer to the question “What was the reason you started judo?”, learners sometimes use “WA”. This paper points out the misuse of “WA” by learners in these two types of implicit sentences and the inconsistency between their understanding and the correct usage. The survey results showed that learners are prone to using “WA” incorrectly due to factors such as the noun phrase at the beginning of the sentence being familiar or the sentence being long. However, when asked about the reason, they often tried to explain their choice of “WA” using grammatical terms such as “subject” or “emphasis,” and there was often a discrepancy between the knowledge they had at the time of selection and the knowledge they described in their explanation. | |||||
