| 内容記述 | This paper reports on the awareness and learning of university students who participated in an online Japanese conversation program with minimal teacher control. In this program, 35 Japanese university students and 35 Japanese language school students engaged in 30 min weekly video calls through a free application for a duration of eight weeks. The program coordinator held a preliminary briefing session but did not control or guide the activity. A survey on 33 Japanese students after an intervention with indicated that （1） 70% of the students were active for longer than expected, （2） more than 90% of the students spontaneously attempted communication strategies, and （3） students’ attitudes toward foreign students and their home countries changed favorably. These findings indicate that even a program with minimal teacher control can offer students specific learning opportunities and enhance their awareness. Although university resources are limited, these findings provide fresh avenues for universities desiring to offer students with varied and beneficial learning possibilities. |
