| 内容記述 | This research analyzes contributions of Spanish intellectuals who were invited by La Casa de España(1938-1940), founded by Mexican President Lazaro Cárdenas. It focuses on the mostly neglected contributions of men of letters to exican culture in comparison to contributions of intellectuals of other academic fields. President Cárdenas, a strong supporter of the Second Republic, provided La Casa de España as a non-permanent refuge for Spanish elites during and after the Spanish Civil War(1936-39). The original idea came from a Mexican economist, Daniel Cosío Villegas, and a Mexican intellectual, Alfonso Reyes, became its President. The main purposes of this institution were first, to achieve further development in scientific researches and higher-education, second, to make use of these European intellectuals’ knowledge to help resolve Mexico’s social problems, and finally to provide humanitarian assistance to panish intellectuals. This research evaluates the contributions of the poets, León Felipe, Juan José Domenchina and Josep Carner, and the literary critic Enrique Díez-Canedo. Although these men did not have outstanding achievements in terms of joint-research with Mexican researchers or fostering future researchers, their involvements in literary ournals founded by Mexican or exiled Spanish writers significantly improved the sophistication of the Mexican literary world. Their achievements also helped fuse Spanish and Hispanic cultures, ultimately making one grand Hispanic culture possible. | |||||
